The Bishops of the World have been called to prepare for an Extraordinary Synod of Bishops in October of 2014 with the theme “The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization.” In preparation for the Synod, the Holy See has prepared a sort of survey for the Bishops to answer. The Holy See has asked that the Bishops share this survey with parish priests, and for them in turn to seek the views of parishioners and other bodies within the diocese.
The Church will not be redefining Church Doctrine based on public opinion – rather the purpose of the Synod will be to discuss how to find solutions to certain difficult pastoral situations using existing Church doctrine.
We regret the short time available to receive your thoughts; however all input must be received in writing by December 9, 2013 so that it can be submitted to the diocese. It will take a great deal of effort to have all the responses reviewed and tabulated so that the Bishops can reflect on them before they prepare their own responses in preparation for the meeting in February 2014.
Should you wish to offer any of your thoughts to the process, please download the document here and in your written responses please be sure to make clear the exact question to which you are responding. Include your name and contact information and drop it in the collection basket or hand it to Father Stan by December 9, 2013.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in this process.
Bishop Cote has asked that “In my name, please thank each person who participates in this survey and extend to them my appreciation and prayers of gratitude for God’s blessing on them and their loved ones.” … “May the Lord bless you for your kind cooperation!”
