Let us receive the announcement of Lent with joy!
For if our forefather Adam had kept the fast,
We would not have been deprived of paradise.
O Lord, who took flesh from the Virgin
in the fullness of time,
Call me back and restore me to Eden!

– Byzantine Vespers

We begin our celebration of Lent with the imposition of ashes on

  • Wednesday at Noon
  • Wednesday at 5:30pm

You thumbed grit
into my furrowed brow,
marking me
with the sign of mortality,
the dust of last year’s palms.

The cross you traced
seared, smudged skin,
and I recalled other ashes
etched
into my heart
by those who love too little
or not at all.

This weekend we announced that in the very near future the parishes of Sacred Heart, Vernon and Saint Maurice, Bolton will be “yoked” as two separate and independent parishes sharing one common pastor. The full text of the letter from Bishop Cote can be found in this week’s bulletin and we encourage you to read it.

This is new territory for both parishes and there will be questions about what changes yoking will require. One way that we can address these questions is to come together to talk. Two parish meetings have been scheduled so that the members of each parish family can talk with one another, ask questions and voice their thoughts and concerns.

The parish meeting for Sacred Heart will be Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:30pm in Sacred Heart church’s ”fellowship room.” (Saint Maurice’s parish family will be meeting on Wednesday, June 4th at 7:00pm at Saint Maurice church in Bolton.) Please consider participating at these meetings if you are able.

We ask that you please keep the parishioners and priests of Saint Maurice and Sacred Heart in your prayers during this exciting time in our parishes’ development.
